The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), inaugurated on 31st March in Mumbai, was the most star-studded affair that our country has ever seen. The event brought the most celebrated names from the Indian film industry as well as some global celebrities of great repute. While the Indian divas added glamour and dynamism to our traditional craftsmanship, the global celebs enhanced the vibrance of the event further. An ideal forum where the West met the East.

Here Are 5 Desi & International Celebs Who Raised The Temperature At The Event With Their Style & Persona

1. Priyanka Chopra Jonas

The Desi Girl never forgets her roots and, true to that, she chose to adorn a Banarasi patola to embrace a vintage look as she owns it. While representing her ethnicity with pride on the global platform, she blended it with western influences as evident from her sequined sheet holographic bustier. The saree designed by Amit Aggarwal weaves silver and gold threads on khadi silk on stripes of nine contrasting colours. Her dark brown lips and highlighted cheekbones were the highlights of her makeup, while her footwear was equally multi-coloured as her outfit. She wore her hair down in light curls. Priyanka accessorised the outfit with a shimmery neckpiece and ear studs.

What You Can Do

You can get your tailor to make a skirt for you from a patola Benarasi saree out of your Mom’s closet. Or else, simply drape a Benarasi saree to wear your Indianness on your sleeve. For your makeup, go for shapes of pink or brown to complement the colours of your Benarasi. Wear your hair down straight or in curls, or tie it up into a clean or messy bun, as you like. Finally, slip into a nude pair of footwear or go for one with pop colours, if you’re bold enough.

2. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja

Crafted by ace designer JJ Valaya, the actor’s royal ensemble in ivory, matte gold, and red was a sight to behold. Known for being a fashionista, her ensemble perfectly represented Indian craftsmanship and heritage with tastefully done traditional embroidery. The cross-bodied pallu in red florals was cinched at the waist with a belt of the same hue and design as her ensemble. The unique long sleeve hung down to her knees, making her outfit a unique amalgam of the East and the West. She wore her hair up into a clear bun a la Sonam Kapoor style and finished it off with blood red lipstick and red blush. The diva finished the look with a tiny silver bag, and glitzy ear and neck accessories.

What You Can Do

You can never go wrong with a gown painted in ivory, gold, and red. If that’s not your combo, opt for colours that hold true to you. Cross-wear the pallu in traditional prints over either of your shoulders and hold it together with a belt cinched high on your waist. Complement the prints of your pallu with your lipstick and keep the rest of your makeup clean. You can wear your tresses straight down or tie it up in a messy or sleek bun. Complete the look with footwear that matches the base of your ensemble and carry a bag of the same colour as that of the thread work.

3. Alia Bhatt

The Bhahmastra star looked drop-dead gorgeous in a silver pleated saree by Vaishali S Couture, paired with an off-shoulder shimmery blouse of the same hue. The accessories were as glittery as her ensemble. And, hence, she tied her hair up into a clean bun, so the focus is entirely on her outfit. Her makeup was as minimalistic as it can get.

What You Can Do

Do your research and get your hands on a pleated saree. Not necessarily silver but any colour that catches your fancy. For the blouse, go for a contrasting one or of the shade hue, of the style that does justice to your preferences and occasion. You can go all out with the makeup if your saree is light-toned or keep it to the bare minimum if your 9 yards are of a deep shade. As for your locks, tie them up into a ponytail or a bun, messy or clean, as per your mood and the event.

4. Zendaya

The Avatar star draped the ‘Verdure’ violet saree gown, paired with the ‘Flying Cranes’ bralette by designer Rahul Mishra. The star-strewed gown glistened under the glitz and glamour of the starry night. The hem of the ensemble was lined with forest-themed designs of foliage and wild animals in contrasting hues. The actor went for a subdued no-makeup look to balance out the dynamism of her drape and bralette, and tied her hair into a loose bun. For accessories, a bracelet and a few rings did all the talking.

What You Can Do

Go for a saree gown that is resplendent with glitters all over. Or go for a saree if you love to stick to the traditional 9 yards. Of course, the shimmer on your saree will depend on how much of it you want on your outfit. The colour? Anything that suits your personality and the occasion you’re wearing it for. Keep your makeup and accessories as minimal as possible, so you don’t like OTT. You can wear your hair straight or in curls, or wear it in a bun.

5. Gigi Hadid

Supermodel Gigi’s white saree, embroidered with white and lined with a broad golden border, stood out during the fashion gala. The Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla designed saree, with the pallu almost gracing the ground and worn with a heavily embellished gold blouse, made her look every bit of a diva. She went all out with her stack of broad, gold bangles and stone studded earpiece but kept her makeup minimalistic. She wore her hair in a neat bun.

What You Can Do

Get your hands on a white saree embroidered with threads of the same colour. The border can be gold, silver, or even bronze – anything that is true to your personality. Pair it with a fancy-sphanzy blouse of the same colour as the border – as OTT as you can go without being conscious of yourself. Keep your makeup and accessories as minimal as possible, unless you can carry off the huge chunks of bangles along with the already-ornate blouse. Leave your hair straight or tie it up in a neat bun or ponytail.
