Body Shaming? These Comebacks From Real Women Are Proof That There’s No Place For Being Size-ist In 2021

Many Indian girls have been bullied into hating their own bodies. While the body positivity movement has taken leaps and bounds in recent years, there’s no denying that society is still rife with body shaming. From childhood, we’ve been conditioned to believe our value is intrinsically linked to our appearance, and what used to be limited to our home and schools, is now somehow free for all to comment on. Many people leave Instagram comments or DMs, saying indecent things about our bodies, but we will tolerate this no more!

If anyone wants to say you’re fat, just tell them that, “There’s just too much of you for their small minds to handle and their cold hearts to love.” The only person whose opinion matters about how you look should be yours. Here are 18 awesome comebacks from desi women that put those body shamers in their place.

Real Women Respond To The ‘Patli Ladki’ Ideal

TC46 put out a post on Instagram here asking our followers what would their response be if someone says, “Tu zara patli hoti toh zyada achchi lagti”. And, here’s what they had to say!

It would’ve been better if your brain was bigger!” – Sonali*

If your mentality was good, then we wouldn’t have been having this conversation!” – Ruchika*

OKAY! Now I’m gonna go and eat what I want. Bye!” – Akansha*

“Aren’t we tired of body shaming women yet?! Just look at any woman and you’ll see beauty in all parts. I always remember how my body has helped me achieve amazing things in my life and I am proud of my body. Smh!”Manisha*

You know what would be better? If you were not here!” – Supriya*

All of us are perfect, unique in our own ways! I hope you realise this sooner or later.” – Anu*

One day you’ll get to know how awesome each individual and then you’ll look back and realise what a stupid thing you just said!” – Richa*

“Forget the haters, let’s keep the culture of body positivity going! Body shaming is NOT healthy and very rude. I don’t do that, so you should also do the same. Have a wonderful day.”Ritika*

Thin or not, my choice. But I’ll always be this smart and sexy!” – Ishika*

I’m already so nice, why should I be nicer for you?” – Jaspreet*

And if you stay quiet then you will look better!” –Sia*

I think the same way about you and your big fat mouth.”Tanishka*

“Every morning I wake up happy and my body is healthy and strong. I don’t define my worth by weight or what the internet thinks. It’s harassment like this that can lead women to eating disorders. I am one of the lucky ones who never suffered from it.”Suchita*

I’m too nice to point out but will say it for your betterment, you need help and education.” – Kripali*

Why? Are my curves making you attracted to me? It’s okay, that happens when you see someone this freaking beautiful!” – Chelsia*

Get a new brain that can think right!” – Mansi*

Oh! Did you not get the memo? Healthy is the new skinny now.” – Nimriti*

Tell that to someone who cares because I am never going to let someone like you tell me how MY body should look like.” – Vishakha*

The way our society views our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, female friends and colleagues and the objectification and scrutiny women are put through is absurd and disturbing. Life’s too short to worry about other people’s opinions! If you can learn to love yourself, find your voice and stop comparing yourself to others, the opinions of body-shamers won’t affect you. Be relentlessly you and never ever let somebody stop you or shame you from being yourself. That’s the stuff of the boss women that you are!
